Utilise roof space or extra land to reduce and offset current electric spend and future proof your home against rising electricity prices.

What is Solar PV?

Solar PV also known as Solar Photovoltaics (PV) is a panel with captures the sun’s energy using layers of semi-conducting material, usually silicon. These cells are grouped together on a panel, then a number of these panels are installed to a roof or ground mounted system.

The cells convert sunlight into electricity, which then you can use for your domestic appliances and lighting. The power generated is measured in kilowatts peak (kWp) which is where it generates at peak performance. We try to ensure you can get the maximum kW power from your installation for your home.

These cells don’t need direct sunlight to work, as they can even generate electricity on a cloudy British day, but usually the rule is the stronger the sunlight, the more electricity is produced.

A Solar PV installation will benefit you:

  • Reduce your carbon footprint
Carbon saving for a standard UK household with a 3.5kW Solar PV installation can be reduced to 0.9 tonnes CO2 p/a

  • You will make savings on your energy bills
The electricity that will be produced by the PV panels can be used to power any applications you use within your home/business and anything not used will then be sent out to the National Grid and/or Battery Storage.

  • You get paid for all the electricity you produce
Smart Export Guarantee Scheme (SEG) is a new proposed scheme from the Government. With this scheme you will be paid for any electricity exported to the grid from your utility provider. The utility company will be able to set the level of payment, although there may be a minimum threshold to abide by.

  • Little maintenance cost.
Solar PV has little to no maintenance, all you need to do is keep the panels relatively clean and ensure there’s no overshadow from trees. Most PV in the UK are fitted at a 15° or more which helps the cleaning of the panels by natural rainfall which ensures optimal performance. With ground array panels these are most likely to get debris, however these are a lot easier to clean by hand. Most panels installed should last 25 years or more with optimization and performance and this is usually backed by the manufacturers warranty, but inverters are likely needed to be replaced every 10-15 years, depending on make and model.

Newbuild projects

Providing us with plans or drawings for your newbuild project at an early stage in the project to give our specialists the opportunity to advise on the optimum size of system you require, and the type of panel that would best suit the location and style of roof.

We will work with your architect and project manager to recommend amendments to the property design, for example to remove obstacles that will shade the solar array thus reducing output, and work along side of contractors on site to ensure a smooth installation

We will ensure that a reasonable area on the roof has been specified as too small an array will reduce, or eliminate the opportunity to recoup your investment.

Retrofit projects

No buildings are the same when it comes to the Solar PV. Every one of our installations, no matter what the size, is unique. Before making any recommendations regarding product or price, we will always visit the site in order to carry out a detailed site visit.

We will then prepare a personalised quotation to meet your requirements to maximise output and achieve the best possible financial return. We will design a solar system that will best suit the space available and the conditions, not to mention, budget.

Should the property be undergoing refurbishment, and/or including a new roof, we may suggest tiles, slates to suit or an in-roof system.

We do offer the option of a Test and Inspect of your PV system, which does a full electrical test of the system including panels and inverter, ensuring you get the very best from your array.

Please contact us if you would like this for your system.
