What is Solar PV?

Solar PV also known as Solar Photovoltaics (PV) it is a panel that captures the sun’s energy using layers of semi-conducting materials to convert solar radiation into electricity. The semi-conducting material is generally silicon, which is the second most abundant element after oxygen, then a number of these panels are installed to a roof or ground mounted system.

You can use for your commercial appliances and lighting, the power generated is measured in kilowatts peak (kWp) which is where it generates at peak performance. We try to ensure you can get the maximum kW power from your installation for your home/business.

So by simply utilising the roof space on your commercial premises, agricultural buildings, factories, warehouses, schools, hospitals, or even a large pond or lake you can install solar power generators and start generating solar energy.

How will a Solar PV installation will benefit your business:

  • Reduce your carbon footprint
Increase your company’s sustainable credentials and improve your business reputation. Carbon saving for a 150kW Solar PV installation can be reduced up to 48 tonnes CO2 p/a

  • Savings on your energy bills
With rise energy cost the free electricity that will be produced by the PV panels can be used to power any applications you use within your business and on site and lowering your business demand for energy from the grid and potentially saving money on energy bills. Anything not used could then be sent out to the National Grid and/or Battery Storage to use for another time.

  • You get paid for all the electricity you produce
Smart Export Guarantee Scheme (SEG) is a new proposed scheme (started January 2020) will cover up to 5MW of Solar PV installed. The SEG pays for the electricity exported by the installation which hasn’t be used by your business.

  • Low maintenance cost.
Solar PV has little to no maintenance, all you need to do is keep the panels relatively clean and ensure there’s no overshadow from trees. Most PV roof panels are fitted at a 15° or more which helps the cleaning of the panels by natural rainfall which ensures optimal performance. Ground array panels are more likely to get debris, however these are a lot easier to clean by hand/machine. Most panels installed should last 25 years or more with optimization and performance and this is usually backed by the manufacturers warranty, but inverters are likely needed to be replaced every 10-15 years, depending on make and model.

  • Low risk investment

Solar PV is a reliable and safe investment that provides returns better than those of traditional low risk financial products, with no future investment required.

Ground Mounted Solar Panels for Business

A ground-mounted solar system is ideal where there is a high energy demand to supply but limited roof space and plenty of land to use. A ground-mounted array will sit on a bespoke frame, designed specifically for the ground conditions of your land.

Our Solar PV systems will have the benefit of being installed to face south for the optimum orientation and tilt to maximize generation capability.

Ground mounted Solar PV system also have a minimal environmental impact and can safely be combined with wildlife and animals grazing around your land.

Ground-mounted solar panel systems take longer to develop than rooftop systems as they need planning permission, alongside various ground condition and topographical surveys as part of the feasibility assessment. However, with over 10 years in installing and designing of these system, we’ll be able to assist you from beginning to end.

Floating Solar Panels for Business

A floating solar system is where the solar panels are mounted on a connected series of floats or floating platform over a body of water. This platform can be augmented to follow the sun’s rays to maximize power generation, a feature which we’ve integrated into many commercial solar panel systems in the past.

As with ground-mounted solar systems, the ideal scenario for floating solar systems is to have a local energy demand to benefit from the generated power.

Floating solar systems will require a planning application and, as a result, will take longer to develop than many rooftop solar PV systems.
