What makes East Green Energy different?
There are plenty of companies offering solar and battery storage, so why choose East Green Energy?
For us, a lot of it comes down to experience and the way we work.
We have been doing this since 2007 and, as you might expect, we’ve seen a lot change in that time. Solar technology has moved on enormously, battery storage has become a much bigger part of the conversation and the projects we deliver today are often considerably larger and more complex than they were when we started.
We have also seen the renewable energy industry itself go through some pretty big changes. Government incentives have come and gone, the Feed-in Tariff created a huge period of growth before being reduced and eventually closed to new applicants, energy prices have risen and fallen and businesses have had to continually adapt.
Over the years, quite a few renewable energy companies have disappeared along the way. Some grew very quickly when government incentives made solar particularly attractive and then struggled when those schemes changed. Others simply weren't able to adapt as the market became more commercial and customers expected more from their renewable energy partners.
We have managed to navigate those changes and keep growing, and we think there’s something reassuring about that. When you’re investing in a system that should be working for the next 15-20 years, it matters who you’re buying it from.
One thing that hasn’t really changed for us is our approach.
We came into the industry from a farming background and that probably explains why we’ve always been quite practical about renewable energy. We understand that businesses don’t invest in solar simply because it’s a good thing to do. The figures have to work, the system has to be reliable and it needs to make sense for the way that particular business operates.
That’s why we don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all solution. We want to understand the site, how and when energy is being used, what the business is trying to achieve and, importantly, whether the investment actually stacks up. Sometimes the answer is solar, sometimes it’s solar with battery storage, and sometimes there are other things worth looking at first.
The businesses we work with have changed considerably over the years too. Agriculture is still a very important part of East Green Energy and something we know extremely well, but today we’re just as likely to be working with a large manufacturer, a commercial property portfolio, FTSE 100 firms, an investment fund or a major UK energy user. Our team now delivers projects right across the country.
Despite that growth, East Green Energy is still an independent, family-run business, and we think that makes a difference. We have grown, but we haven’t lost the personal side of the business. Our customers are dealing with people who know the industry, know the projects and care about getting the job right.
Solar and battery storage are long-term investments and we believe the relationship with the company behind them should be long term too.
Nearly 20 years in, we are proud of how much East Green Energy has grown, but we are equally proud that we still work in much the same way we did at the beginning. Understand the customer, be straightforward about what will work, make sure the numbers make sense and deliver something we’re happy to put our name to.
